Upload photos of the problem, describe it in a sentence or two and add the dates you noticed and reported it. RepairThis builds a clear repair-request letter, a follow-up letter for if nothing happens, and a dated photo record to attach. You review it, sign it and send it yourself.
Start my repair request: free preview →See your timeline and the start of your letter before you pay. Then $7 per repair case, or $15 for three. One-time. Letters for renters in California, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Missouri, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
Photos straight from your phone (the date stored inside each photo goes on the timeline), what's wrong in your own words, when you noticed it and when you told the landlord. Screenshots of earlier texts or emails help too.
A first request that says what's wrong, where, since when and what you're asking for by a reply-by date you choose, plus a follow-up letter that refers back to it. Anything we can't find in your files becomes a yellow [FILL IN].
PDF and Word files for each letter, and a photo record with dates to attach. Keep copies of what you send and how you sent it.
The letters use only what you tell us and what your files show. They don't guess causes, threaten, or promise outcomes, and they never tell you to withhold rent.

California landlords must keep a rental fit to live in and repair problems that make it untenantable (Civil Code §§1941, 1941.1), and may not retaliate against a tenant for asking for repairs (§1942.5). For the problem types you pick, the letter includes our checked summary of that rule, inserted word for word; the AI doesn't write it. In Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Maine, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, West Virginia, and Wyoming, the letter cites your state's statute on a landlord's duty to maintain a rental unit, in fixed wording checked against the official source; the AI doesn't write that either. In Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee, the letter is a plain written repair request with no law in it. See the rules and sources.

Is this legal advice?
No. We organize your files. We're not a law firm, and this isn't legal advice. We turn your photos and notes into letters for you to check and send yourself. For advice about your situation, contact a local tenant-rights group or legal aid.
Something dangerous, like a gas smell, sparking wires or sewage?
Don't wait on a letter. Call 911 or the utility's emergency line first, then tell your landlord right away. You can still use RepairThis afterwards to put it in writing.
Will it tell me to withhold rent or fix it myself and deduct the cost?
No. Those options have strict conditions, and getting them wrong can put you at risk of eviction. Our rules page summarizes the rules for each state we cover and links the official sources and free legal help.
Which states?
California, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Missouri, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, West Virginia, and Wyoming. We only draft letters where we've checked the state's rules against official sources. In other states you can still get the dated photo record and timeline, but no letter yet.
What happens to my photos?
We keep resized working copies to build your letters and record, and delete the originals right after processing. Everything is deleted after 7 days, or sooner if you delete it.
